2:30PM A Word About First Book

Ok, if you're just joining us, or have never heard of Blogathon, here's the basics:

Crazy people like Shady and I take a Saturday every year to raise money for charity. Participants choose whatever organization they wish and blog for 24 hours straight, one entry every half an hour. Sponsors (that's you guys) pledge whatever they can afford, and donate the money directly to the charity. The participants never see the money. This is our sixth year participating!

"Blogathon" was a world-wide event, run by people we'd never met, but for whatever reasons, they've cancelled for two years in a row. Several long-time "'Thonners," including Shady and I got together last year and put together an "Alternathon." The result of which is the rambling missives you see here today. :)

Shady has a long standing of blogging for First Book. First Book provides books to children in need, and every $10 donated will purchase 5 new books. Everyone we've dealt with at the organization has been wonderful, and they've even sent little trinkets for us to use as prizes in past years.

To sponsor us, just leave a note here with your name (please, we've gotten several anonymous notes today) and the amount you are pledging so that we can keep track. Then visit this link to First Book's donation page when you can. They do have a $5 minimum donation to keep their costs for charging credit cards low. Step three is to sit back and laugh as the sleep deprivation kicks in.
